What are Termite Baiting Systems?

Termite baiting systems are installed underground around the property they are securing. They can also be inside a house if there are existing termite tunnels.

A monitoring system will attract the termites to the bait before entering your building.

If detected, the active baits are installed that kill termites before reaching your house. They are a mixture of cellulose and slow-acting insecticide. Their ultimate goal is to eradicate the entire termite colony.

Once the termites take the baits, they transfer them back to the colony, thus poisoning the rest.

How do termite baiting systems work?

  • Initial Inspection

We start by inspecting your home to assess the situation.

  • Station Installation:

We install bait stations designed to attract termites.

  • Ongoing Monitoring

We regularly inspect the stations over a set period to detect termite activity.

  • Bait Activation

If termites are found, we install active baits that contain an ingredient that disrupts their moulting process.

  • Colony Elimination

The slow-acting bait spreads through the colony, gradually wiping out the entire nest within 6-12 weeks.

Termite Bait Station Installation

  • Placement of Bait Stations

Termite bait stations are installed underground around the property, sometimes inside the house on existing termite tunnels.

  • Bait Station Design

Each station is a perforated hollow cylinder containing bait. The perforations allow termites to enter, establish a colony-specific smell, and attract other termites.

  • Proper Installation

Stations are placed at least 600mm from the house's foundations to avoid interference with treated soil and should be spaced at three-meter intervals around the building or in high-risk garden areas.

Type of Termite Baiting System Used

Total Inspections recommends Trelona Advance Termite Bait System. We are certified to install and monitor this system.
  • Trelona Advance System

Ideal for active termite colonies, using a potent active ingredient, Novaluron, requiring lower dosages.

  • Traditional Method

Install the system with an inspection cartridge, and conduct quarterly inspections. If termite activity is detected, replace the inspection cartridge with a Trelona bait cartridge.

  • Direct Baiting Method

For existing termite activity, install the Trelona ATBS Direct Bait Kit instead of an inspection cartridge. The highly attractive bait quickly draws termites, allowing them to spread it to the entire colony.

Advantages of Termite Baiting Systems

When considering termite control methods, a termite baiting system offers several advantages for your property:
  • Non-Intrusive Installation

No need for digging trenches or creating large holes. Bait stations are installed with minimal disturbance to your home and yard.

  • No Booster Treatments Required

Termite bait systems function as standalone control methods, eliminating the need for additional treatments. Only periodic refilling is necessary.

  • Monitors Termite Activity

These systems track termite activity before treatment, allowing for more effective control of the colony.

  • Less Toxic

Baiting systems use less toxic substances, making them safer for the environment.
